Here are ideas that have come from many different sources:

Peace Corps: this involves a minimum 2 year commitment, but it is something I would really enjoy. It would also help me in whatever I decided to do later as a “resume fluffer”.

Cross Cultural Solutions/Americorps: similar to Peace Corps. It is a much shorter program, but not as fun.

EMT-B: I took the classes and I just need to take the registry exam (…I think) to work as an EMT-Basic until I can find something else to do. It would be fun to do this somewhere other than Oklahoma…California…maybe Davis???

Teach for America: I have not looked into this too much, but it’s an idea.

Master’s Program: but in what???? some type of Bioengineering or Biophysics maybe. throw me ideas…

Professional School (Law, Dental, or other): need input…

Medical School: how do I get there? what should I do before reapplying?

This is what I have so far. I need more ideas, or any input on the ideas you see above. Everything is an option. I can stay in Oklahoma, move to California, go across the ocean. I am open to anything right now. Let me know what you think…thanks.

This is the beginning of my “clean slate”. I just got the boot from medical school and now I have to figure out what to do with my life. My first concern is that people are starting to get on my nerves. Here is what I have been told so far:

“It’s not the end of the world.”

Yes, I know this. Mainly because of the lack of frog rain and locust winds. It is a step along the “journey of life.”

“It’s not a big deal.”

Bullshit! It is a big deal. Let’s not trivialize it.

“You’ll be fine.”

I hope so, otherwise you were wrong about the whole big deal thing.

I understand people want to make me feel better, but I don’t really want “warm fuzzies”. I want/need solutions. I need friends and family to say, “here is an option, here are the pros & cons of this alternative, this is why it would be good for you, and this is how this option relates to the other choices you have.”

I need to figure out where I’m going. I don’t even know what I want to do now. I could try to re-enter medicine. This would require me to spend a few years trying to get my stuff together to produce a decent application.

I could go do something else…Engineering, Law, some type of Master’s, Dental School,…

I’m looking at pretty much everything and anything right now. I’m going to make a post with a list of ideas, and if anyone has anything else please comment there.
